BUSA Korfball 2008 Tournament Rules

The following rules are stipulated by IKF and EKA/BSKA approved rules for Korfball Championships. I urge teams to read the following carefully and share the information with ALL participating members of their squad so they can be fully aware of the stipulations which guide the tournament.

Proof of status will be checked on the day of the event against the team sheets submitted to BSKA in advance of the event. Failure to provide the valid ID will mean that the individual(s) involved will not be permitted to take part in the event. ALL participants MUST be registered members of the BSKA by the 24th February 2007.

3.0 MATCH RULES AND REGULATIONS

3.1 Current EKA governing body rules apply unless stated. Please familiarise yourself with game rules which can be obtained at http://www.englandkorfball.co.uk. Penalty spot, Free pass and penalty area will all be marked out with masking tape for both days.
3.2 No time outs are permitted in the group games or 1/4 finals except in the semi-finals and final where there is one per team lasting one minute. Time outs are not allowed in the last 5 minutes of the match.
3.3 Each team is allowed up to 4 substitutions per game.
3.4 If a team fails to turn up in time for the match (when the referee calls for the captains) they will forfeit the match and will lose the game 10-0. They shall also incur a fine of £20.
3.5 Home and away teams are NOT as they appear on the schedule; this will be determined by the toss of a coin under the presence of the match referee.
3.6 The start and finish of games will be decided on the referee’s whistle NOT the hooter. The hooter is there as a guide for referees to start and end the game.
3.7 Captains must sign the referee score card at the end of the match.

4.0 KIT

4.1 If there is a clash of kits the away team will be required to change their kit or use the bibs provided by UEA.
4.2 Captain should wear a captains armband to identify themselves to the referee.

5.0 GROUP STAGES

5.1. 2 points shall be awarded for a win. 1 point shall be awarded for a draw.
5.2. The top two teams in each group shall qualify for the 1/4 finals and will play off for positions 1-8.
5.3. Those teams finishing 3rd and 4th in their group will play off against teams from other groups occupying the same positions and will play off for positions 9-16.
5.4. In the event of one or more teams tying on the same number of points, the team with the better goal difference shall advance. If this does not produce a victor then the result between the two teams shall determine the winner. In the unlikely event that this does not produce a winner, the team who has scored the most goals will advance.

6.0 KNOCKOUT - NOT including the FINAL

If any game ends in a draw then the winner of the match shall be determined by penalties. There will be 5 penalty takers per team. If after each team has taken 5 penalties a result cannot be achieved then a result shall be determined through sudden death. The order for taking penalties must not change in this instance.

6.1 FINAL

If at the final whistle, a draw results then a maximum ten minute ‘golden goal’ period will be played. The game will be re-started after a 3 minute interval. Except where any substitutions are made at this time in due accordance with the rules of the game, the players must be those who were playing at the final whistle.

The Golden Goal period shall operate as follows:-
(i) The teams shall line up in the same zones and shall attack the same ends as at the start of the match.
(ii) A toss will be made to determine which team shall start the golden goal period. For the purposes of this section of the rules the winners of the toss will be referred to as the starting team and the losers of the toss will be referred to as the opposing team.
(iii) Provided both teams have had an opportunity to attack (i.e. had possession in the attack zone) then the first team to score shall be the winners.
(iv) If the starting team scores in their first attack (i.e. with the opposing team not having had possession in their attack zone) then the opposing team shall have an opportunity to attack and score. The opposing team’s attack is considered to be over when possession is obtained by an attack player of the starting team who is standing in his/her own attack zone. In this case the requirement that both teams have had an opportunity to attack has been met with the starting team being declared the winners.
(v) If the starting team score in their first attack and this is matched by the opposing team in their first attack then the game continues with the teams changing zones and the starting team restarting the match. The above provisions about having an opportunity to attack still apply and the game will continue in a similar manner until a winner is achieved.
(vi) If there is no winning score after ten minutes of “golden goal” play then penalties will be taken as set out below.

6.11 If in order to reach a decision penalties have to be taken, these will be taken by five of the players of each team who were playing at the end of the golden goal period. The referee will toss a coin to determine which team will start. The winners of the toss will start. All five players of the teams concerned will alternately take one penalty each. If both teams have scored an equal number of goals from these penalties, ‘sudden death’ penalties will be taken. Here players from the two teams take penalties alternately as above but the result is decided if at the end of each pair of players one team has scored more than the other. The order for taking penalties MUST remain the same in each circumstance.

7.0 MISCONDUCT

7.1. Any case of misconduct shall be reported by the referee, to the results desk, within 10 minutes of the completion of the game. Reports by other officials and/or players who were witnesses to the incident may also be requested by the NOC and these must also be submitted to the NOC within 15 minutes of the completion of the game.
7.2. If a player receives a yellow card they will receive a one match ban from the competition and will be fined £10. If you receive a red card you will receive a tournament ban and will be fined £40.
Questions and issues regarding referee decisions should be made explicitly through the captain and/or coach of the team.
